Why 'Just Send Someone to the Market' Is Harder Than It Sounds
Markets like Bodija are large, crowded, and full of judgment calls — which tomato seller is fair today, whether the fish looks fresh, whether to accept a substitute when something’s out of stock. A market errand only works if the person doing the buying is someone you can actually trust with those decisions, and if there’s a clear process for when things don’t go exactly as planned.
Here’s exactly how it works on New Errand and Logistics, end to end.
Step 1: You Place the Errand Request
You choose Market Errand (for a traditional market like Bodija) or Supermarket Errand (for Shoprite, FoodCo, Ace Mall, Ventura Mall, and similar), list the items you need, and add any notes — brands, quantities, acceptable substitutes. You can request a single-location run or a multi-location run if your shopping list spans more than one market or supermarket.
Step 2: A Rider or Our Dispatch Team Takes It On
Unlike a Goods Delivery (which gets broadcast to every available Rider), Errand jobs are coordinated directly by our admin team and assigned to a specific Rider — or, at times, fulfilled by a member of our own staff. This matters because errands take judgment, not just riding skill, so we handle the assignment deliberately rather than leaving it to whoever accepts fastest.
Step 3: Shopping, With You in the Loop
The assigned Rider or dispatch team member goes to the market or supermarket and buys your items. If something on your list is unavailable, they’ll contact you directly through in-app chat or phone to agree on a substitute — or to simply exclude that item from your order. Nothing gets swapped or skipped without you knowing.
Step 4: Delivery and Confirmation
Once shopping is done, your items are delivered to your address. You’ll be asked to confirm delivery in the app — this is the moment to check that everything arrived as agreed before confirming. If something’s wrong, raise it through in-app support rather than confirming; our admin team will review it.
What You Pay For
This fee covers the trip and the shopping service. The cost of the actual items you’re buying is separate and reconciled with you directly. Everything is paid from your in-app Wallet (funded via Paystack) — there’s no cash-on-delivery option.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Rider or dispatch team will reach out to you directly to agree on a substitute or to leave that item out — you decide, and the cost of anything not purchased is refunded to your Wallet.
Yes — choose a Multi-Market or Multi-Supermarket Errand if your list spans more than one location.
The cost of the items is based on what they actually cost at the market or supermarket at the time of purchase, and is reconciled with you directly by the Rider or dispatch team — it is separate from the fixed service fee.
You can cancel for free before the Rider or dispatch team has begun the trip. Once shopping has started, the service fee is no longer refundable since that work has already been performed.
